What can an additional driver do on a Sync trip

This article explains exactly what you can and cannot do as an additional driver, compared to the main driver who made the booking.

What you can do as an additional driver

  • View trip details — Dates, pickup and return location, vehicle information (model, color, license plate), included kilometers, and booking extras.

  • Perform check-in — You can pick up the car on behalf of the main driver. The full check-in process (photos, vehicle inspection) is available to you.

  • Perform check-out — You can return the car and complete the check-out process.

  • View trip messages — You have access to the conversation between the main driver and the host, so you can see any instructions or delivery details.

  • View trip policies — Host instructions, protection plan, trip rules, cancellation policy, and the car sharing agreement.

  • View trip photos — Access to check-in and check-out photos.

  • Contact Sync support — You can reach out to us if you need help during the trip.

What you cannot do as an additional driver

Some actions are only available to the main driver — the person who made the booking. As an additional driver:

  • You cannot send messages — You can view the conversation, but you cannot participate. Only the main driver can message the host through the trip.

  • You cannot view the cost — The financial details of the booking (total cost, receipts, charge breakdown) are only visible to the main driver.

  • You cannot change the dates — Pickup and return dates can only be modified by the main driver.

  • You cannot change the location — The pickup and return location can only be changed by the main driver.

  • You cannot add or remove drivers — Only the main driver can manage the list of additional drivers.

  • You cannot cancel the trip — Cancellation is only possible by the main driver.

Protection plan coverage

As an additional driver, you are automatically covered by the same protection plan that the main driver selected for the booking. No separate coverage is needed and there is no extra charge for adding you.

Good to know

  • If you need something you cannot do yourself (such as changing dates or cancelling), ask the main driver to make the change from their own account.

  • If the main driver switches to a different vehicle through a change request, additional drivers are not automatically transferred to the new booking — the main driver will need to add you again.
