How to Verify Your Identity as an Additional Driver

A guide for anyone who wants to be added as an additional driver to a booking made by someone else — what's needed, how verification works, and what you can do.

If someone has made a booking on Sync and you'd like to be added as an additional driver, you need your own Sync account with completed identity verification. The whole process is done through the app — no office visit or document submission required.

Identity verification is a prerequisite. For the primary guest to add you as an additional driver, your Sync account must already be verified. You cannot be added until verification is complete.

Step by step

  1. Create a Sync account (if you don't have one) Download the Sync app, tap "Sign Up" and fill in your details. You'll need an email address, mobile number, and password.

  2. Open verification from your Account tab Tap the Account tab at the bottom right of the app. You'll see the "Driver's licence verification" card — tap Verify Now.

  3. Choose your document A driver's licence is preferred, but the following are also accepted:

    • Driver's licence (recommended)

    • Passport

    • National ID card

    Note: If you are 25 or under and use a national ID card, you will also be asked to submit your driver's licence so we can confirm the issue date (a minimum of 1 year's validity is required).

  4. Complete the Veriff flow The app opens Veriff, the identity verification provider Sync uses. Take a photo of your document and a selfie following the on-screen instructions. The process usually takes just a few minutes.

  5. Wait for approval Verification is processed automatically. You'll receive a notification in the app as soon as your account is approved.

  6. The primary guest adds you to the booking Once your account is verified, the person who made the booking opens their trip in the app, goes to the trip page, and adds you as an additional driver using your Sync email address or phone number.


What you can do as an additional driver

As an additional driver you have access to the essential trip details and can act on the vehicle:

  • View trip dates, the vehicle, and the pick-up/return location

  • View the available km allowance

  • Perform check-in and check-out of the vehicle

You do not have access to financial information and cannot cancel or modify the booking — those actions belong to the primary guest.


Are you covered by insurance?

Yes. As an additional driver you are fully covered under the protection plan selected by the primary guest. No separate plan is required.


When can I be added?

An additional driver can only be added when the booking is in Confirmed or Active status. If the booking has not yet been confirmed, or has already ended or been cancelled, it is not possible to add a driver.


Common issues

My verification was declined. Each account has a maximum of 3 attempts. If the photo was blurry or the document unreadable, the attempt does not count. Make sure you have good lighting and that your document is valid.

The primary guest can't find me. Make sure they are using exactly the email address or phone number registered on your Sync account, and that your account is already verified.

My licence is less than 1 year old. If you are 25 or under and your licence was issued less than 1 year ago, you do not currently meet the eligibility requirements to be verified as a driver on Sync.
