A valid EU driving licence works everywhere. Non-EU visitors can drive on their home licence for up to 6 months in Greece. If your licence isn't in Latin script (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic), carry an International Driving Permit alongside it. Police checks happen at roadside stops, especially in summer. Minimum age is 21. Some hosts set 23 or 25 for specific vehicles. Check the listing before booking.
Rhodes has good roads along the main coastal routes north and east. The west coast road from Rhodes Town to Prasonisi (southern tip) is 90km and takes about 1.5 hours. The east coast road through Faliraki to Lindos is 55km, about 1 hour. Inland roads to villages like Embonas and Profitis Ilias get narrower and more winding. A standard car handles them fine. The road into Lindos village itself is pedestrianised: park in the paid lot outside and walk in.
No toll roads on Rhodes. Drive anywhere on the island without stopping for tolls.
Petrol stations are plentiful in Rhodes Town and along the east coast as far as Lindos. Unleaded 95 runs around €1.90-2.15/litre, slightly higher than the mainland. South of Lindos and on the west coast below Soroni, stations get sparse. Fill up before heading to Prasonisi or the inland villages. Your host hands over the car at a set fuel level. Return it the same way.
Rhodes Old Town is fully pedestrianised inside the walls. Park in the lots just outside the gates, around €1.50-2/hour. The area around Mandraki harbour also has metered parking at similar rates. Lindos has a large paid car park at the village entrance (around €5/day in summer). Don't attempt to drive into the village itself. At popular beaches like Anthony Quinn Bay and Tsambika, parking is free but limited: arrive before 10am in July and August.
Rhodes port connects to Piraeus (Athens) with overnight ferries taking about 14-18 hours depending on the route. Shorter routes run to Kos (1.5-2 hours), Heraklion (Crete), Santorini, and other Dodecanese islands including Symi, Tilos, and Patmos. You can take your Sync car on any ferry and travel anywhere in Greece. Book car spaces well in advance for summer crossings, especially the Piraeus route. The main port is 500m from the Old Town entrance.
Most Sync hosts in Rhodes deliver to your hotel or any address in Rhodes Town and the surrounding area. If you're flying in, you can arrange pickup at Rhodes Airport (RHO, also called Diagoras Airport) right after landing. It's about 15km southwest of the city center. Agree on the time and address when you book. Your host will confirm before arrival.
