A valid EU driving licence works everywhere. Non-EU visitors can drive on their home licence for up to 6 months in Greece. If your licence isn't in Latin script (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic), bring an International Driving Permit. Minimum age is 21. Some hosts set 23 or 25 for specific vehicles. Check the listing before booking.
The main road running north-south through the center of Corfu is well-maintained. Corfu Town to Sidari in the north is 40km, about 50 minutes. Corfu Town to Kavos in the south is 45km, about 1 hour. Both directions are straightforward. The west coast road to Paleokastritsa and the northwest villages gets winding and steep in places but stays paved. Roads to some of the best beaches (Agios Georgios North, Porto Timoni, Canal d'Amour) are narrow at the end. A standard car reaches all of them fine. The olive grove interior roads are beautiful for slow driving but not signed well: GPS is useful.
No toll roads on Corfu. Drive anywhere on the island for free.
Petrol stations are well distributed in and around Corfu Town and along the main central road. Unleaded 95 runs around €1.85-2.10/litre. The far north (Agios Stefanos, Kassiopi) and the far south (Kavos) have fewer stations. Fill up in Corfu Town or Sidari before heading to the extremes. Your host hands over the car at a set fuel level. Return it the same way.
Corfu Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage site) is largely pedestrianised. Park in the paid lots at the New Fortress or at the Spianada square area, around €1.50-2/hour. Don't drive into the Campiello (the old Venetian quarter): the alleys are too narrow. Most beach resorts and villages have free informal parking. Popular beaches like Glyfada, Agios Gordios, and Paleokastritsa fill by 11am in July and August. Paleokastritsas main lot charges around €3-5/day in peak season.
Corfu port runs frequent ferries to Igoumenitsa on the mainland (35 minutes), which connects to the Greek road network and onward to Patras, Athens, and Thessaloniki. There are also international ferry routes to Italy (Bari, Brindisi, Ancona, Venice) operated by several companies, making Corfu a popular stop on the Greece-Italy route. You can take your Sync car on any ferry and travel anywhere in Greece. Book car spaces in advance for summer crossings, especially on the Italy routes. The port is in Corfu Town, about 10 minutes' walk from the Old Town.
Most Sync hosts deliver to your hotel or any address on the island. If you're flying in, Corfu Airport (CFU) is about 3km south of Corfu Town: pickup can be arranged there right after landing. If you're arriving by ferry from Igoumenitsa or Italy, the port is in the center of Corfu Town and pickup there is easy to arrange. Agree on the time and address when you book. Your host will confirm before arrival.
