Kozani sits on the E90/A4 motorway, making it well-connected to both Thessaloniki (100km northeast, about 1 hour) and Kastoria (55km west, about 45 minutes). Ioannina is 155km southwest, about 1.5 hours via Kastoria. City roads are standard urban. Regional roads to nearby destinations are good: Lake Polyfytos is 20km south on a well-maintained road. Siatista is 30km northeast via a paved regional road. The road to Veria (65km northeast) via the A4 is motorway standard. Winter conditions matter: Kozani sits at 710m and snow is common from December to March. The city keeps main roads clear, but mountain roads toward Kastoria or Ioannina can require snow chains after heavy snowfall. Check conditions before driving west in winter.
Tolls apply on the A4/E90 motorway if you're arriving from or heading to Thessaloniki. Typical section costs €1.50-2.50 each. No tolls within Kozani or on the regional roads to Polyfytos, Siatista, or Krokos.
Good fuel availability throughout Kozani. Fill up before heading to Siatista or the Lake Polyfytos area, where stations are sparse. Unleaded 95 around €1.88-2.00/litre, slightly below average due to the region's energy industry presence. Your host hands over the car at a set fuel level. Return it the same way.
Parking in Kozani city center is a mix of paid street spots and free parking on the outer streets, typically a 5-10 minute walk from the main square. No significant parking challenges. At Lake Polyfytos, informal free parking near the lake shore at Rymnio and Krania. At Siatista, park at the edge of the lower town and walk up into the mansion quarter. No parking issues anywhere in the region.
Kozani is an inland city with no ferry connection. The nearest ferry ports are Thessaloniki (100km northeast) with Aegean island connections, or Igoumenitsa (about 200km southwest) for Italy and Corfu routes. You can take your Sync car on ferries from either port and travel anywhere in Greece or internationally.
Most Sync hosts deliver to your hotel or any address in the city. Kozani has no airport: the nearest are Kastoria (KSO, 55km west) and Thessaloniki (SKG, 100km northeast). If you're arriving by air at either, your host can arrange delivery to you there, or you can pick up in Kozani after traveling by road. If you're arriving by bus, your host can meet you at the KTEL station. Agree on the exact time and location when you book. Your host will confirm before arrival.
