Karditsa city is flat and easy to navigate. The road west toward Lake Plastiras climbs steadily from the plain into pine-covered mountains: the approach through Morfovouni and Neochori is well-paved and straightforward, reaching the lake at about 35km from the city, 40 minutes. The lake perimeter road (about 28km around) is fully paved with good views throughout. For the Agrafa mountains further west, roads become more remote past the lake: paved but narrower, with some sections requiring care. The road to Meteora goes north via Trikala (30km northeast), then northwest to Kalambaka: about 60km total from Karditsa, around 1 hour. In winter, the road to Plastiras and into the mountains can have ice and snow; check conditions before driving up.
No tolls within Karditsa or on the road to Lake Plastiras. If you're driving from Athens on the A1/E75 motorway, expect tolls of around €12-15 to reach the Karditsa area. From Larissa or Trikala on local roads, no tolls. All roads around Plastiras and into the Agrafa are free.
Good fuel availability in Karditsa city. Petrol stations also in Morfovouni on the way up to Plastiras. Fill up in the city or Morfovouni before heading west toward the lake or deeper into the Agrafa: stations are sparse beyond Plastiras. Unleaded 95 around €1.88-2.00/litre. Your host hands over the car at a set fuel level. Return it the same way.
Karditsa city center has easy free and paid parking. The city is flat and compact, and parking is rarely a problem. Around Lake Plastiras: the villages of Neochori, Morfovouni, Kalo Nero, and Kastania all have informal free parking near their centers. The lake viewpoints along the perimeter road have pull-offs. No paid parking anywhere around the lake.
Karditsa is an inland city with no ferry connection. The nearest ferry port is Volos, about 90km east (about 1 hour by car), with connections to the Sporades islands: Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos. You can take your Sync car on any ferry from Volos and travel anywhere in Greece.
Most Sync hosts deliver to your hotel or any address in the city. Karditsa has no commercial airport. The nearest options are Larissa Airport (LRS) about 70km north, or Nea Anchialos (NEA) near Volos about 90km east. Your host can arrange pickup at either airport, or you can travel to Karditsa and receive the car at your accommodation. If you're arriving by train (Karditsa has a rail connection), your host can meet you at the station. Agree on the exact time and location when you book.
