One of the most common reasons a car stays off Sync, even though its owner would like it to earn money, is that renting needs someone to be there: someone has to hand over the key on a Tuesday at 8 in the morning, reply to the Guest in the middle of a meeting, or take the car back on a Saturday when the owner is out of town. The same obstacle keeps many of our Hosts at one or two cars, when they could have more.
From today, that obstacle has a solution, and it’s called Co-hosts.
What a Co-host is
A Co-host is someone you trust who takes on the day-to-day work of your hosting on Sync: they welcome Guests, hand over and take back the cars with the photos, reply to messages, keep prices and availability up to date, and report a pickup problem or swap a car if needed. They sign in with their own Sync account, enter your hosting and work inside it as if they were you.
You can have up to 5 Co-hosts, all with the same role, and a Co-host can work for more than one Host. The feature is available on the website, including from your phone’s browser, and in the Sync app.
What they can and can’t see
We designed the role around one rule: a Co-host sees what they need to do their job well, and nothing else. They see all your cars and all your bookings, along with the earnings of each booking they look after, just as you see them on the booking page.
They don’t see your total earnings, your balance, your payouts, your invoices or your tax details. They can’t change the Protection Plan, add or delete a car, touch your profile and account settings, or see your monthly rentals. All of that stays with you alone, and if a Co-host opens a link to any of it, they simply see that only you have access there.
Who the Guest sees
Everything a Co-host does is done in your name. The Guest sees you in reviews, in the pickup and return photos and in the booking events, and every completed booking counts towards your rating and your progress to Superhost. The only exception is messages: when a Co-host writes, the Guest sees their first name and photo, so they always know who they’re talking to, without the Co-host’s role being shown anywhere.
There’s another side to this: because a Co-host acts in your name, you’re responsible for what they do. A cancellation by a Co-host is a Host cancellation, with the fee that comes with it. That’s why the Co-hosts page shows you what each of them has done over the last 90 days, and if at any point the arrangement isn’t working for you, you remove them with one tap and their access stops immediately, without affecting any booking.
What it costs
Nothing to Sync. Booking earnings are paid, as always, only to you, and Sync doesn’t transfer any money to the Co-host. How you pay them is a private agreement between you, and we suggest you agree on it before you send the invitation.
Where to find a Co-host
If you already have someone in mind, such as a relative, a friend or a colleague, you invite them directly by email. If not, open the Sync Co-hosts directory, where dozens of people have already signed up, most of them in Athens and Thessaloniki. Choose a city, browse the profiles and message anyone who interests you.
People who have verified their identity on Sync, with a driving licence, ID card or passport, carry a “Verified identity” badge and appear first. Beyond that, Sync doesn’t vet candidates, so meet in person or talk on the phone before you give anyone access to your cars.
How to get started
On the website, in your Host dashboard, open Hosts Settings and then Co-hosts. In the Sync app, switch to hosting and you’ll find the Co-hosts page under Profile. Tap “Invite Co-host”, enter the person’s email and the invitation goes out right away, valid for 7 days. The person accepts it from their own Sync account, or creates one from the invitation link if they don’t have one, with a confirmed email and phone number, and from that moment they work on your cars. A Host can send Co-host invitations only while their hosting is Active.
If you don’t have a car but you do have time
The programme has a second side. If you live in a city with Sync Hosts, have free hours and enjoy dealing with people and cars, you can become a Co-host without owning a car. Apply at host.thesync.com/cohost by answering three short questions, verify your identity in the Sync app so you appear first in the directory, and the Hosts in your city will see your profile and get in touch. You agree your pay directly with the Host.
Why we built it
Guests in Greece rent all year round and, most of the time, during working hours: a car for a month while their own is at the garage, for a business trip, for a long weekend. That demand needs Hosts who can hand over a car on a Tuesday morning, and until now each Host’s limit was the hours in their own day. With a Co-host, a Host with two cars can have five without adding a single hour to their day, someone without a car earns from work that suits them, and the Guest finds the car they want, when they want it. We think that’s good for all three.
All the details, rules and steps are in the help articles “Working with Co-hosts” for Hosts and “How to become a Co-host on Sync” for candidates. If your car sits parked because you don’t have the time, from today it doesn’t have to wait.
